I was tasked with building a scale 1:250 site model of York Racecourse. The model included the proposed initial strategy for the redesign of the Press, County and Melrose Stands.
The scheme’s strategic approach replaced existing unappealing buildings, creating a north south arcade linking the Ebor and Melrose stands, improving accessibility, relationships with the surrounding structures and views onto the parade ring.
My model was used in the client meeting as part of the preparatory work for the stage 2 commission. This was a competitive tender and I was proud to have been involved in their overall client presentation materials.
This experience provided me with an insight into larger architectural proposals than I had perviously been exposed to. Discovering how the model-making skills I had been learning at university are used in real schemes was particularly rewarding.
